Orlando, FL – PerformSpecialty®, LLC, a full-service specialty pharmacy owned by PerformRx and part of the AmeriHealth Caritas family of companies, announced today that it has been awarded Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.
URAC’s Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation provides an external validation of excellence in specialty pharmacy management and provides continuous quality improvement (CQI)-oriented processes that improve operations and enhance compliance.
“At PerformSpecialty, we hold ourselves to a high standard, and we are proud to meet URAC’s standards for excellence,” said Mesfin Tegenu, M.S., R.Ph., president of PerformRx. “PerformSpecialty shares PerformRx’s clinical culture and commitment to providing the most sound, efficacious treatments and programs for optimal outcomes. PerformSpecialty’s Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation ensures that our members receive the same quality care they’ve come to expect from PerformRx, creating a complete and inclusive care program.”
“Specialty pharmacy patients require not only complex and often costly therapies, but also education about their condition and assistance with their treatments, and PerformSpecialty is well-positioned to provide these services to our patients,” said Dino Martino, R.Ph., executive director of PerformSpecialty. “URAC’s accreditation is a testament to our dedication to providing the best quality of care. We are very proud to be recognized for our commitment to excellence and to receive URAC’s Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation.”

URAC’s Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation evaluates pharmacies that specialize in filling prescriptions for patients who need certain high-cost biotech and injectable medications. These specialty medications help patients with complex conditions including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, certain types of cancer, solid organ transplant and hemophilia. These drugs can be injected, infused or taken orally, and typically require special handling and other specialty expertise.

URAC’s standards keep pace with the rapid changes in the health care system, and provide a mark of distinction for health care organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality and accountability. Through its broad-based governance structure and an inclusive standards development process, URAC ensures that all stakeholders are represented in setting meaningful standards for the health care industry. The full-service specialty pharmacy will bring as many as 100 jobs to Orlando.
Orlando, FL – PerformSpecialty, a full-service specialty pharmacy wholly-owned by pharmacy benefit manager PerformRx®, hosted its grand opening on February 5, 2015 at the company’s Orlando headquarters. Following the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony, the company invited attendees to an educational symposium and dinner.
More than 130 guests were in attendance at the afternoon opening, including the Honorable Rick Singh, Orange County property appraiser and Regina Hill, Orlando city councilwoman for District 5. Visitors were able to tour the 18,400-square-foot facility and speak with Dino Martino, R.Ph., executive director of PerformSpecialty and Mesfin Tegenu, M.S., R.Ph., president of PerformRx.
“PerformRx has a long and successful history of managing specialty drug products both on the pharmacy benefit and medical management sides — our URAC accreditation in disease state management helps to further illustrate this point,” Tegenu said. “We are developing a pharmaceutical care coordination model with the capability to interface with health plans’ medical management and care management systems. And to further complement our service offering and better position us to optimize patient outcomes, we have built our own state-of-the-art specialty pharmacy, PerformSpeciality, LLC.”
“As treatments for conditions like hepatitis C and multiple sclerosis become more advanced, having a specialty pharmacy that can both dispense these medications and support their proper use will be vital to ensure the best care for patients,” Martino said. “We’re very excited to be in Orlando. With our experience and programs, we will be able to provide patients with the best service possible.”
